Therapeutic areas with high unmet medical need - Focus on CNS and Rare diseases
The Siena Biotech Portfolio is centred on novel and precedented targets together with pathway or phenotypic approaches in two primary therapeutic areas, Neurodegeneration, in particular Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease and Oncology, with a focus on neuro oncology.
In each disease area we are building a robust pipeline of compounds which are optimised with an emphasis on using functional data in a disease-relevant context with close attention to appropriate physicochemical properties.
The Alzheimer's disease portfolio is based on intervening within the amyloid cascade. We aim to maximize chances of success by targeting the cascade at various levels to address several of the mechanisms associated with Aβ production and neurotoxicity. Knowledge of these mechanisms in an in vitro and in vivo setting is the foundation of our target selection progress.
In Huntington's disease the focus is on disease-modifying approaches and therapeutic intervention in the various aspects of mutated huntingtin aggregation and toxicity.
In Oncology the company focus on blood-brain barrier penetrant compounds offers a distinct advantage for possible treatments for brain cancers and peripheral tumours capable of metastasizing to the brain. In addition, mechanisms selected for modulation may be relevant to peripheral cancers and are being progressed for non-CNS related tumours.
